The guy beaten up by the police told how his bones were broken in the ROVD and the way police officers ate crayfish bought by him in a restaurant.
Since last week Aliaksandr Zekhau has been in the Central City Hospital of Brest. Brain commotion, partial loss of memory are the consequence of a physical abuse. According to the young man and his friend Siarhei Kalyada, on May 7 they were severely beaten by policemen . Alexander still refuses to talk to journalists, Belsat reports .
The incident started near Skazka cafe in Brest
There the guys met to talk and to drink. An hour later they headed for the taxi, but were detained by policemen of the Maskouski ROVD. According to witnesses, friends were calm, did not resist. They were taken to the police station, as the victims say, they were severely beaten. Last Thursday Siarhei Kalyada told journalists about his injuries.
"A fracture of the arm and two ribs were broken. Now I take painkillers," Siarhei complains.
More than ten policemen took part in the beating
Parents of the injured name Raman Trafimchuk, police officer of the Maskouski ROVD, as one of the defendant in the case. Belsat journalists contacted this police officer, however, he refused to talk. Higher institutions are also not able to comment on it.
"We still know nothing about it. Perhaps, it actually happened, the inspection is being carried out," UVD of the Brest City Executive Committee informs.
New details of the incident
Siarhei Kalyada has been discharge from hospital today. He told reporters what happened after the detention on May 7.
"I wondered what was going on. And that was the moment everything started from. I was ordered to shut up. First I was beaten up with batons. I lost consciousness for a few minutes. When I regained consciousness I was beaten up with legs. We were beaten and they (police officers) ate our crayfish," Siarhei recalls.
This is almost normal
However, not all victims dare tell about police violence. People are often threatened with physical altercation.
"I think it happens because of no selection to the police as such. People are hired there because of their physical not mental health state," retired police Lieutenant Colonel Mikalai Kazlou explains.
"The minister, whose subordinates treat people this way (this applies not only to the persecution of the opposition, but also to ordinary citizens), probably must retire, if he has some conscience. And what does he do? He wears the NKVD uniform and believes that the police are doing everything right," Kazlou adds.
Will it be possible to bring policemen to justice?
The victim Siarhei Kalyada is going to file a complaint in the near future. Conclusions of doctors about the numerous bodily harm are the main argument. However, other stories prove that it will not be easy to punish employees of this department.
