Bad news for the dictator.

The National Election Commission of Poland (NEC) published data from polling stations in the 2023 parliamentary elections. Data from more than 99.92 polling stations have been taken into account, Polsat reports.

According to the NEC, the ruling Law and Justice (PiS)political party wins - 35.41%. According to assessments, PiS will have 196 seats.

Civil Coalition (KO) - 30.67% (about 158 seats).

Third Way (PSL) - 14.41% (61 seats).

The Left - 8.60% (30 seats).

Confederation - 7.16% (15 seats).

Who will form the government?

Rzeczpospolita assures readers that Law and Justice will probably not be able to create a new government on its own, even if the Confederation is on the side of the current ruling party in the new Sejm. But Donald Tusk’s Civic Coalition has a chance to form a new cabinet of ministers together with its allies - Third Way and The Left, notes Polish Radio.

Dziennik Gazeta Prawna says that the new government will be formed depending on two factors: the final distribution of seats in the Sejm and the will of Polish President Andrzej Duda. According to the Constitution, the president has 30 days after the elections to convene the first session of the new Sejm. Then the current government will resign and a new one will be approved.

Rzeczpospolita adds that if it takes about two months to form a new government, then during this time the current Council of Ministers headed by Mateusz Morawiecki will still rule the country, but without the possibility of adopting new laws.

What did Polish politicians who could form a government say about Lukashenka?

The leader of the Civil Coalition, Donald Tusk, expressed confidence in the victory of the people of Belarus in 2020, citing his experience during the struggle of the people of Poland against the communist regime, people were also beaten on the streets by security services in Poland. He added that almost all country leaders are confident that Lukashenka will lose this fight. Tusk said that he is optimistic about the situation in Belarus and that the EU will continue to provide increased support to Belarus.

“Lukashenka has become a threat not only to the citizens of his country but also to international security,” Tusk said after Lukashenka hijacked a Ryanair civil plane.

One of the leaders of the Third Way Szymon Hołownia also supported Belarusians in 2020 and even organized a picket near the Belarusian embassy in Warsaw:

“The values you fight for are fundamentally important to us. Human dignity, freedom and the right of citizens to independently decide the fate of their country are also close to Poles and Polish women.”

The politician also advocated the creation of a humanitarian corridor for Belarusians after 2020.

Robert Biedroń, one of the leaders of The Left which may also appear in the coalition government, has long headed the European Parliament’s Commission on Relations with Belarus.

Even before the 2020 elections, the politician called on the EU to impose tough sanctions against the Lukashenka regime.

The politician also advocated the creation of a humanitarian corridor for Belarusians after 2020.

Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, who is also a member of Third Way, called on the Polish government to react harshly to the dictator’s provocations on the border:

“We must not succumb to pressure from the Lukashenka regime, which wants to destabilize us and the European Union.”
