Belarusian tennis player Maksim Mirny called to stop violence in Belarus in August 2020, but now he says he failed and regrets his "emotional outburst".

Mirny said he made his statement to 2020 during an allegedly difficult emotional period of the coronavirus:

"I was under a very strong emotional covid period at that time, and plus our 2020 election happened. And I didn't cope," Mirny said, barely holding back tears. "I'm a living human being. And we're all prone to making mistakes. I'll say it again, I regretted my emotional outburst. And today, having returned to my usual Belarus, I feel calmer and more confident, because seeing today what is going on in the world, such an impression that the core inside has exploded and the world is cracking at the seams," Mirny said.
