Politico: Trump Is Considering A New Aid Package For Ukraine Worth Hundreds Of Millions Of Dollars

US President Donald Trump is considering a new military aid package to Ukraine worth hundreds of millions of dollars. This is according to two sources Politico familiar with the plan.

It is noted that this is the administration's first potential aid to the stricken country. The new aid package would reflect internal divisions within the administration over helping Ukraine as its fight with Russia enters its third year.

Importantly, the money would come from a fund approved by Congress last year under President Joe Biden that allows the Defense Department to withdraw weapons from U.S. military arsenals for Ukraine. About $3.8 billion remains in the fund, known as the "Presidential Authorization for Reduction".

The publication writes that NATO countries are working on a larger deal to buy U.S. weapons for Ukraine, a congressional aide said. Politico reported earlier this month that Kiev is asking Washington to allow Europe to buy U.S. weapons.

Defense Department officials said they had suspended arms shipments because of concerns about U.S. arsenals. But some officials disagreed that these relatively small shipments would negatively affect U.S. capabilities.

According to a person with knowledge of the conversation, the issue prompted Deputy Defense Secretary Steven Feinberg to gather defense industry executives in his office last month to discuss stockpile concerns.
