NYT: NATO Has Developed A Mechanism To Speed Up U.S. Arms Deliveries To Ukraine

One option is the creation of special accounts in Europe.

NATO countries have devised a new way to provide Ukraine with critical American weapons for its fight against Russia.

The The New York Times writes about it.

One of the options is the creation of special accounts in Europe under General Alexus Hrynkiewicz, the commander-in-chief of NATO's military forces in Europe.

They would be used to pay for weapons and ammunition, which would then be sent to Ukraine via third countries.

"The main goal is not to wait for weapons to be manufactured, but to use ready stocks: from the arsenals of the United States, other countries or from the market, as the Czech Republic is doing, buying 155-mm artillery shells around the world," the article says.

It is important that allies can also give Ukraine their weapons, receiving priority for purchase. For example, Germany bought eight Patriot SAM batteries from the United States instead of three sent to the Ukrainian armed forces.

The publication notes that the United States fears that removing Patriot from other areas will weaken the defense of allies in Asia and the Middle East.

At the same time, worries about Russia are growing in Europe. The head of the French army, Gen. Thierry Burkard, has said Putin considers France his main adversary in Europe.
