Russia Halted Gasoline Exports

Reasons given.

Russia has banned the export of gasoline by fuel producers until the end of August. The reason was tightened seasonal maintenance disrupted by drone attacks and Western sanctions.

This was reported by Bloomberg.

"The decision was taken to maintain a stable situation on the domestic fuel market during the period of high seasonal demand and agricultural field work," the Russian government said in a statement.

The ban is expected to have a limited impact on the global market for petroleum products.

According to data compiled by Bloomberg, gasoline exports from Russia typically amount to about 100,000 barrels per day. That's less than 2% of the total volume of global seaborne trade in the fuel.

The agency notes that the Russian government is trying to ensure a sufficient supply of fuel on the domestic market during the vacation season, when citizens travel en masse and farmers harvest crops.

Some of the country's key refineries have been hit by Ukrainian drone attacks this year, forcing a change in maintenance schedules.

These works may last longer than originally planned, or their timing may change due to delays in equipment supplies related to sanctions, Russian media reported, citing Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev.

The Russian government has previously halted gasoline exports by companies that are not fuel producers.
