The broadcast was watched by hundreds of thousands of people.
Rock singer Ozzy Osbourne gave a farewell concert at the Villa Park soccer stadium in Birmingham as part of a large-scale charity show. This is reported by The Independent.
Musicians from the original lineup of Black Sabbath, a band he co-founded, took the stage with Osbourne. The band performed at the "Back To The Beginning" festival: Metallica, Slayer, Tool, Gojira, Alice in Chains, musicians Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Slash and Duff McKagan of Guns N' Roses, Korn leader Jonathan Davis, Fred Durst (Limp Bizkit) and other performers also took part.
The concert lasted over ten hours.
The Independent estimates that the show will bring in around 20 million pounds ($27.3 million) for Birmingham. Osbourne said after the concert was announced that it was important for him to take the stage for the last time in his hometown.
Osbourne performed at the stadium of his favorite soccer club, Aston Villa. The arena is located about 500 meters from the home where the musician grew up. As The Guardian notes, when Osborne lived there, he started his music career by placing a band recruitment ad in a music store. Thus Black Sabbath was created.
Tickets for "Back to the Beginning" sold out faster than half an hour. Because of the hype, the organizers decided to arrange an online broadcast of the concert, which was delayed by two hours. The cost to watch was 25 pounds ($34), not including service fees. According to The Independent, more than 250,000 people used the option in the first couple hours of the show alone. Black Sabbath made millions of pounds from the broadcast of the event alone.
Ozzy Osbourne is 76 years old. In February 2023, he announced the end of his touring activities due to his health.
