Minsk Women Have Started Having Children Less Often And Later

Women are increasingly becoming pregnant in their 30s and 40s.

Over the past five years, the number of births in Minsk has decreased by a third. At the same time, women are increasingly getting pregnant at the age of 30-40, reports "Euroradio".

"In 2020, the capital will have more than 17 thousand births, and in 2024 - a little more than 12 thousand," head of the 4th women's consultation of the 1st Clinical Hospital of Minsk and head of the city center "Extragenital Pathology and Pregnancy" Alexandra Shkarupa told Smartpress in an interview.

She adds that now 60% of pregnant women in Minsk are women between 30 and 40 years old.

Besides the decline in birth rate and the growing age of expectant mothers, doctors have recorded an increase in the number of pregnant women with concomitant diseases that can complicate the course of pregnancy. All women in Minsk with chronic hypertension, heart defects, thyroid diseases, diabetes and other diagnoses are referred to the city center of "Extragenital pathology and pregnancy".

"If in 2020, about 400 patients were referred to us, in 2024 - more than 700," says Shkarupa.
