Vodka Production Collapsed In Russia

  • 8.07.2025, 18:19

It's all to blame for the price hike.

In January-June, Russian companies reduced the output of alcoholic beverages excluding beer, cider, poiret and mead, according to data from Rosalkogoltabakkontrol. Total volume fell 16.1% to 79.3 million decaliters (dal) year-on-year. Vodka production fell by 10.9% to 31.38 million dal, cognac - by 17% to 3.45 million dal.

President of the guild "Alcopro" Andrei Moskovsky linked the trend to a 17% increase in minimum retail prices for strong alcohol at the beginning of the year. From January 1, 0.5 liters of vodka can be sold at a cost starting at 349 rubles, and cognac - from 651 rubles (in 2024 it was 299 rubles and 556 rubles). At the same time, the authorities raised the excise tax on ethyl alcohol and alcohol-containing products from Br643 to Br740.

The production of beverages with a strength above 9% decreased by 9.5%, to 46.83 million dal, liqueur-vodka products - by 0.5%, to 8 million dal, and liqueur wines - by 9.6%, to 644.9 thousand dal. Only the output of grape and sparkling wines increased. In the first case by 12.4%, up to 17.66 million dal, in the second - by 18.5%, up to 7.2 million dal.

The biggest drop - by 91.6% - showed low-alcohol products (up to 725.4 thousand dal). It is followed by fruit alcoholic beverages (minus 84.7%, up to 769.2 thousand dal) and grape-containing beverages (minus 60.5%, up to 11.4 thousand dal, with alcohol and minus 73.2%, up to 48.7 thousand dal, without it). However, this is due to their transfer to other categories, including beer beverages.
