A record was set for targets shot down.
The night of July 8-9 marked a new milestone in Russia's air aggression against Ukraine. The Russian army unleashed an unprecedented number of kamikaze drones and missiles on the Ukrainian sky, seeking to deplete the air defense system and strike critical infrastructure.
The Ukrainian defense forces, however, fought back with confidence: 718 aerial targets were neutralized. This is a record figure for the entire period of the full-scale war.
As the AFU reported, from 8 p.m. July 8 to the morning of July 9, the Russian army launched a combined strike on the country's territory, using a total of 741 means of air attack.
These included 728 Shahed attack drones and imitators of other models launched from the directions of Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Kursk, Orel and Millerovo.
Russia also fired 7 Kh-101 / Iskander-K cruise missiles from the territory of the Saratov and Kursk regions and 6 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles from the airspace of the Lipetsk region. The main strike came in Volyn, particularly Lutsk.
Ukrainian air defense, including fighter aviation, anti-aircraft missile systems, electronic warfare forces and mobile fire groups, managed to neutralize 718 enemy targets, of which 303 were destroyed by fire: - 296 UAVs were shot down; - 7 cruise missiles were destroyed. The remaining 415 targets were lost to the enemy as a result of suppression by REB means.
Nevertheless, hits were recorded in four settlements, as well as debris falls at 14 other locations. Clarification of the consequences is ongoing.
Attacks of this scale confirm that Russian Federation continues its night terror tactics, relying on drones and missiles to deplete Ukrainian air defense. Despite the intensity of the raid, Ukrainian forces demonstrate resilience and efficiency, which becomes a signal to the world: defense works, but needs constant support and reinforcement.
