Belarusian Steel Works (BSW) has suspended "production of some types of products in order not to work at a loss," said Deputy General Director for Technology and Quality Sergei Terletsky at a meeting with employees of electric steelmaking shop No. 1, writes "Pozirk".

Terletsky named cost reduction as one of the main tasks.

Last month, the company's management at meetings with the personnel mentioned several times the difficulties in connection with sanctions restrictions and the external environment. Thus, according to the press service of June 26, General Director Dmitry Korchik said that the beginning of the year was not easy, primarily because of the decline in prices for metallurgical products on the world market.

- In the first months we leveled out the situation, and since March we began to work with operating profit. Our return on sales is positive. And by the end of the half-year we plan to finally level the situation," he noted.

Korchik called "the situation in the metalware direction" difficult, as Chinese car manufacturers who "have their own tires" have entered the Russian market.

In connection with the drop in cord exports, "the plant is undergoing a process of personnel optimization," the general director said.

"The tendency of decreasing orders for metalware production" in Russia was also noted by Igor Chernyavsky, deputy general director in charge of this direction (publication of June 23): "The previous consumption of tires has decreased, and accordingly the volume of metal cord consumption is also falling. In addition, there is a lot of competition on this market from Chinese tire manufacturers, who are actively dumping prices.
