Sweden's Prime Minister Caught Up In Scandal Over Confession About ChatGPT

The politician is criticized for using the service in his work.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has come under a barrage of criticism after admitting he often turns to artificial intelligence for "other opinions" in government work.

As The Guardian writes, in an interview with Dagens industri, the politician revealed that ChatGPT and LeChat help him with alternative views. "I use these services quite often - even just to hear a different opinion. To see what others have done and whether we should think differently," the prime minister said.

The statement sparked a wave of criticism in the media and among experts. The newspaper Aftonbladet criticized the prime minister in an editorial, accusing him of "falling into the trap of the AI-psychosis of the oligarchs."

Cybersecurity researcher Simone Fischer-Gübner of Karlstad University warned that using artificial intelligence to process even basic but potentially sensitive information is risky. Kristersson's spokesman Tom Samuelsson responded by noting that the prime minister is not passing any critical information to the systems:

"This is not about security data. It's more of an orientation tool - a general view."

Other experts, however, remain skeptical. Professor of responsible use of AI at Umeå University Virginia Dignum noted that such systems have no opinion of their own, but merely reproduce the vision of their developers.

"The more often a politician relies on artificial intelligence, even for simple tasks, the more likely he or she is to start overestimating its reliability. This is a dangerous trend. We did not vote in favor of ChatGPT. And we should demand guarantees about the reliability of such systems," she added.
