Poland Closes Border With Belarus Indefinitely

Warsaw expects provocations.

The decision to close the border with Belarus was taken not only for the time of the exercise "West-2025," said Polish Minister of Interior and Administration Martin Kierwinski in an interview with the radio station TOK FM.

According to him, the decision to close the border was taken not only for the duration of the exercises, but also in a broader context: "We are afraid of provocations in a broader sense: increased migration pressure, attempts to illegally cross into Polish territory, the passage of persons dangerous to the security of the country. Hence such a tough decision," he said.

Kierwinski emphasized that "the closure of the border is not for the duration of the exercises, but in connection with them." "The term of the border closure has not been determined," he added. At the same time, he noted that "the border will not remain closed for a single extra day."

The minister believes that the decision is justified from the point of view of Poland's security. "From Friday to Tuesday, the most aggressive part of the exercise will take place - maneuvers that actually simulate a full-scale conflict with NATO forces, including Poland's territory," he noted.
