Traffic at the checkpoints stopped at 1.00 am Minsk time.
Since September 12, Poland completely closed the border with Belarus. Traffic at checkpoints, including the passenger "Brest", stopped at midnight local time (1.00 am in Belarus) for an indefinite period of time.
"Several buses remain on the bridge between Poland and Belarus. Almost all of them have foreign license plates. The buses will be formalized to enter Belarus. Checkpoints on the side of the Republic of Belarus continue their work," said a representative of the State Border Committee Anton Bychkovsky.
According to the stream of the State Border Committee, in fact, the passage of transport to the Polish side stopped half an hour before the closure of the border.
A few minutes before the appointed time, buses from Minsk, Baranavichy and Brest, which had already reached the Warsaw bridge and were standing in the so-called "settling ground," were turned around and sent back.
At 00.16 Polish time (1.16 Belarusian time), the passage to "Terespol" from the side of Belarus began to be blocked with metal shields and barbed wire. The buses gathered on the bridge over the Western Bug had to back up and return to the territory of Belarus.
According to "First Information", the last bus from the Polish side entered the territory of Belarus 20 minutes before the border was closed. There were only two passengers and two drivers on the bus.
According to those who arrived, most passengers left the bus while still in line on the Polish territory, despairing and realizing that they would not be able to enter Belarus. Those who arrived were lucky - they stayed in the transport. Among them - an elderly woman and a young man.
The SCC previously reported that even after the closure of the border, there will be no situation where someone will remain between the two countries, because there is no neutral territory as such.
Persons who have been cleared from the Belarusian side are near the state border in front of the barrier and are considered to have left. However, if the neighboring side will not allow people to enter its territory, they can return to Belarus. In this case, they need to pass the border and all kinds of entry controls, which are usually provided for those who have entered.
Reminder, September 9, Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk announced the decision to completely close the border with Belarus on September 12. He explained this step by the growing number of provocations from Russia and Belarus and joint military exercises "West-2025".
September 10, Polish Minister of Interior and Administration Marcin Kerwiński signed a decree on the suspension of border traffic at checkpoints with Belarus from 00.00 Polish time on September 12.
He specified that the border will be closed not for the duration of the exercises "West", but in connection with them: "The term of the border closure is indefinite. We will constantly analyze the situation."
The minister stressed that the Polish side does not intend to "keep the border closed even for one day without necessity".
