The signing of the treaty took place in Riyadh.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have concluded a historic defense alliance, strengthening the strategic balance in the Middle East.

According to Reuters.

The agreement provides for mutual response to any aggression, joint planning of military operations and enhanced defense cooperation, and covers all types of military assets, including Pakistan's nuclear capabilities.

The document solidifies the two countries' long-standing strategic security partnership amid a sharp rise in tensions in the Middle East.

The signing took place in Riyadh with the participation of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. After the ceremony, the two sides shook hands and embraced. Pakistan's army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, considered one of the country's most influential politicians, also took part in the event.

Experts believe the alliance could significantly affect regional security and change the strategic calculations of Gulf states.

According to the treaty, any aggression against one state will be considered an attack on both. This means Pakistan pledges to support Saudi Arabia with all military means, including nuclear deterrence.

The pact comes amid growing doubts among Gulf monarchies about the reliability of the US as a traditional security guarantor.

Last week, the situation was exacerbated by Israeli airstrikes on Doha when Hamas political leaders were targeted. That sparked Arab outrage and forced the region to seek new formats for defense alliances.

"This agreement is the culmination of years of discussions. It does not target specific countries but institutionalizes the deep partnership between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan," a senior official in Riyadh said.

At the same time, Saudi Arabia said that despite its rapprochement with Pakistan, it would also continue to strengthen relations with India, Islamabad's nuclear rival.
